The Maharashtra cabinet approved a name change for two districts including Aurangabad and Osmanabad. The western district Aurangabad’s name has now been changed to Sambhaji Nagar while Osmanabad to Dharashiv.

• The Navi Mumbai airport’s name will also be changed to DB Patil international airport.
• The renaming came amid the Uddhav Thackeray government has been trying to merge in roots and stand a strong ground in to carry forward the government in Maharashtra.

Eknath Shinde took oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra with the support of a breakaway faction of Shiv Sena MLAs and Independents.

After taking the oath in Mumbai, Shinde returned to Goa at midnight to meet his colleagues who had supported him in rebelling against Uddhav Thackeray.

• Interacting with reporters at the Goa Airport, he said Maharashtra could see this day because of his 50 MLAs.
• He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah among others for reposing confidence in him.

The UK government has partnered with leading businesses in India to offer 75 fully-funded scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK from September, the British High Commission (BHC) said. The announcement comes as British and Indian leaders from international business and government gather in London for the India Global Forum.

• The BHC, in a statement, said that this is the highest number of fully-funded scholarships given for the one-year master's programme to date. Companies like HSBC, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons and Duolingo are supporting this special initiative to celebrate India's 75th year of independence, the high commission said.
• The programmes on offer include Chevening scholarships for a one-year master's programme, with the opportunity to study any subject at any recognised UK university.

Pay Roll Automation for Disbursement of Monthly Allowances (PADMA), an automated Pay & Allowances module for the Indian Coast Guard was inaugurated by Shri Rajnish Kumar, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Ministry of Defence. The CGDA emphasized that the Government has campaigned for Digital India to ensure dedicated services and reduce manual intervention at every level & to promote E-Governance in a big way.

• PADMA is an automated platform leveraging latest technology which will provide seamless and timely disbursal of Pay & Allowances to around 15,000 Indian Coast Guard personnel.
• This module has been developed under the aegis of Defense Accounts Department and will be operated by Pay Accounts Office Coast Guard, Noida.
• The launch marked the beginning of the Centralized Pay System (CPS), the foundation of which is being laid down by the Defence Accounts Department Headquarters to provide one stop pay accounting solutions for all organisations under the Ministry.

A small NASA-financed spacecraft launched from New Zealand on 26-06-2022, kicking off the space agency’s plans to send astronauts back to the moon in a few years.

• The spacecraft, called CAPSTONE, is about the size of a microwave oven.
• It will study a specific orbit where NASA plans to build a small space station for astronauts to stop at before and after going to the moon’s surface.
• At 9:55 pm local time (5:55 a.m. Eastern time), a 59-foot-tall rocket carrying CAPSTONE lifted off from a launchpad along the eastern coast of New Zealand.
• Although the mission is gathering information for NASA, it is owned and operated by a private company, Advanced Space, based in Westminster, Colorado.

The International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated every year on 30 June, the date in 1889 on which the IPU was founded. The Day was established in 2018 through a United Nations General Assembly Resolution. 

• The IPU, founded in Paris in 1889, is an international organisation of national parliaments to promote democratic governance, accountability, and cooperation among its members.
• In 2022, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its Member Parliaments will mark the International Day of Parliamentarism under the theme of public engagement.

World Asteroid Day (also known as International Asteroid Day) is an annual UN-sanctioned global awareness campaign event observed on June 30, which is the anniversary of the Siberian Tunguska event of 1908.

• Asteroids are small space rocks that are either revolving around the Sun or large planets like Saturn or Jupiter. While most asteroids usually just fly past Earth, however, they can cause immense damage if their collide with our planet.
• The World Asteroid Day 2022 – Aims to build awareness around asteroid impact hazards and the crisis communication workflow that can be executed at a global level in case of a threat.

Indian hockey stalwart and member of the gold medal winning 1975 World Cup team, World Cup winner and Olympics medallist Varinder Singh passed away in Jalandhar.

• He was 75. Singh was part of the gold medal-winning Indian team at the 1975 men’s Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
• Singh was also part of the bronze medal-winning team at the 1972 Munich Olympics and silver medal at 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam. In 2007, Varinder was conferred with the prestigious Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.

India successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed high-speed expendable aerial target (HEAT), ABHYAS, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the Odisha coast. ABHYAS is designed and developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

• The performance of the aircraft at low altitude, including sustained level and high maneuverability, was demonstrated during the test flight.
• The target aircraft was flown from a ground-based controller in a pre-designated low-altitude flight path, which was monitored by various tracking sensors deployed by ITR, including radar and an electro-optical targeting system.
