The Delhi government has introduced its Draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, aiming to significantly enhance EV adoption and reduce vehicular emissions in the capital.
The policy outlines several key proposals:
Phase-Out of CNG Auto-Rickshaws:
Ban on Fossil Fuel Two-Wheelers:
Transition of Goods Carriers:
From August 15, 2025, registration of fossil fuel-powered three-wheeler goods carriers will be disallowed.
Electrification of Municipal Vehicles:
All solid waste collection vehicles owned or leased by municipal bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council, are to transition to electric vehicles, achieving a 100% electric fleet by December 31, 2027.
Public Transport Buses:
Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) will procure only electric buses for intra-city operations and BS VI-compliant buses for inter-state services.
Private Vehicle Ownership:
Individuals owning two or more vehicles will be required to purchase only electric cars for any additional vehicle acquisitions.
These measures reflect Delhi's commitment to improving air quality and promoting sustainable transportation solutions. The draft policy is pending approval from the Delhi Cabinet and may undergo modifications before final implementation.
