Tripura's Rangacherra Village Set to Become State's First Fully Solar-Powered Community

In a significant stride towards sustainable energy, Rangacherra village in Tripura's Mohanpur subdivision is poised to become the state's first fully solar-powered village. This initiative aims to provide clean and reliable electricity to all 600 households, marking a milestone in Tripura's renewable energy journey.

Key Highlights:

  • Comprehensive Solar Electrification: Each of the 600 households in Rangacherra will be equipped with rooftop solar panels, battery storage systems, and energy-efficient appliances, ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
  • Infrastructure Enhancements: The project includes the installation of solar-powered streetlights, community facilities, and irrigation systems, enhancing the village's overall infrastructure.
  • Cost-Free Implementation: Residents will not bear any financial burden for the solar installations, as the project is fully funded by the government, with an estimated cost of Rs.1.22 crore.
  • Government Support: The initiative is spearheaded by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) and supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), reflecting a collaborative effort towards sustainable development.
  • Recognition as 'Solar Gram': Upon completion, Rangacherra is expected to be officially designated as a 'Solar Gram' by the central government, acknowledging its status as a model for renewable energy adoption.

This transformative project not only addresses the village's previous challenges with erratic electricity supply but also sets a precedent for similar initiatives across the state, contributing to Tripura's goal of generating 500 MW of solar power by 2030.
