MATERNAL MORTALITY RATIO(MMR)
Health minister JP Nadda in Rajya Sabha said that MMR goals set in national health policy (NHP) 2017 have been achieved by India. Now India’s MMR is at 100 per lakh live births.
As per the sample registration system (SRS) of registrar general of India the MMR in India is at 97 per lakh live births.
Importance
A significant decline of 33 points in MMR from 130 in 2014-16 to 97 in 2018-20.
What is MMR?
As per WHO maternal death is the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management.

- It is under the ministry of home affairs.
- Conducts population census and monitor the implementation of registration of births and deaths.
National health policy 2017
- Increase life expectancy at birth from 67.5 to 70 by 2025.
- Reduce under five mortality rate to 23 by 2025 and MMR from current levels to 100 by 2020.
- Reduce infant mortality rate to 28 by 2019.
- Reduce neo-natal mortality to 16 and still birth rate to single digit by 2025.
