Explanation:

Let Ranis’s current age is A years.
Then, mom’s current age = (A + 3A) years = 4A years.
(4A + 8) = (5/2) (A + 8)
=> 8A + 16 = 5A + 40
=> 3A = 24
A = 8
Needed ratio = { (4A + 16)/(A+16) }
= 48/24
= 2
