Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Back in Pakistan and PoK

In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces launched "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, 2025, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK). The operation was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 Indian tourists were killed by militants.

Key Points

Swift Military Action:

The operation lasted approximately 23 minutes, utilizing Rafale fighter jets equipped with SCALP and HAMMER missiles.

Nine targets were struck, including locations in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Gulpur, Bhimber, Chak Amru, Bagh, Kotli, Sialkot, and Muzaffarabad.

Retaliation and Escalation:

Pakistan responded with artillery shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in civilian casualties in regions like Poonch and Uri.

Pakistan also claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and several drones, though these claims remain unverified.

International Reactions:

Global leaders, including the UN, U.S., China, and Russia, have called for de-escalation and urged both nations to engage in diplomatic dialogue.
