Amit Shah Chairs 27th Eastern Zonal Council Meeting in Ranchi to Strengthen Inter-State Cooperation
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 27th Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) meeting in Ranchi on July 10, 2025.
Chief Ministers and senior officials from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal participated, focusing on inter-state coordination, Naxalism elimination, water-sharing disputes, infrastructure, and regional development.
Key Highlights:
- Over 83% of inter-state issues raised across all zonal councils since 2014 have been resolved, reflecting the councils’ growing role in cooperative federalism.
- Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren submitted 31 demands, including ?1.4 lakh crore in pending dues from PSUs, funds for Tribal University, and Ranchi Metro development.
- Amit Shah declared Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha largely free from Naxalism and set March 31, 2026, as the target for complete eradication.
- Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi called for joint efforts in rural banking, women’s safety, education, and green energy initiatives.
- Long-pending issues such as disputes over dams and division of PSU assets between Bihar and Jharkhand were addressed, with resolutions expected soon.
