Indian Economy - Understanding the basics of Indian economic system
India is set to induct an advanced version of the indigenous Pinaka multi-barrel rocket system with an extended range of up to 300 km. Developed by DRDO, this next-generation artillery system can launch 12 missiles in just 44 seconds and is expected to significantly enhance the Army’s strike capabilities over the next 3–5 years.
Key Points:
The new Pinaka missile system, capable of firing 12 missiles in 44 seconds, will have variants with ranges of 120 km and 300 km.
DRDO has completed user trials of the Guided Pinaka version, and procurement for army induction is expected soon.
The advanced system features automated launch, inertial navigation, and "shoot-and-scoot" capability for increased accuracy and battlefield survivability.
The Indian Army plans to induct these systems within 3 to 5 years and aims to raise 22 Pinaka regiments by 2030.
Pinaka will complement India's growing air defence ecosystem, which includes Akash, QRSAM, S-400, and Project Kusha (ER-SAM) with coverage up to 400 km.
