PM Modi Inaugurates Chenab & Anji Khad Bridges, Flags Off Vande Bharat Trains in J&K
On June 6, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the iconic Chenab and Anji Khad railway bridges in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
He also flagged off Vande Bharat trains connecting Katra to Srinagar, and dedicated development projects worth Rs.46,000 crore to the nation.
Key Highlights:
- PM Modi inaugurated the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge at 359 meters above the riverbed, built using 30,000 tonnes of steel.
- He also inaugurated Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, connecting Katra and Reasi districts across the Anji River.
- Both bridges are part of the Rs.43,780 crore USBRL project, aimed at providing all-weather rail connectivity to Kashmir.
- PM Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains between Katra and Srinagar, equipped with special features for winter operations.
- The Prime Minister dedicated development projects worth ?46,000 crore, boosting infrastructure, tourism, and economic growth in the region.
