NEW UREA PLANT

UREA PLANT IN ASSAM

Cabinet gave nod to new brownfield Ammonia Urea complex within the premises of Brahmaputra valley fertilizer corporation limited (BVFCL) at Namrup Assam. Estimated cost of project is 10601.4 crore rupees.

About the plant

  • The plant will be established with a debt-equity ratio of 70:30 through a joint venture.
  • Will have annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tons (LMT)
  • Inter-ministerial committee to oversee the establishment of this fertilizer plant.
  • Government of Assam will hold 40%, BVFCL will have 11%, Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited will own 13% and both national fertilizer limited and oil India limited will have 18% each stake.

  • Majorly imported from Qatar, US, UAE, and Angola.
  • Current urea production capacity of India is at 31.4 million tonnes (MT) as of 2023-24.
