INSV Tarini embarks on second leg of expedition from Australia

The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini embarked on the second leg of the Navika Sagar Parikrama-II (NSP-II) on November 24, 2024.

Mentored by Commander Abhilash Tomy (Retd), the crew is preparing for their passage across significant maritime landmarks such as Cape Leeuwin and Tasmania.

  • Navika Sagar Parikrama-II began on October 2, 2024, under the leadership of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.
  • The expedition is a groundbreaking initiative featuring a dual-handed circumnavigation of the globe by two women officers of the Indian Navy, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A.
  • In the first leg of the journey, they covered an impressive 4,900 nautical miles in 39 days before reaching Fremantle on November 9.
  • This phase will cover approximately 3,400 nautical miles (6,300 kilometers) over an estimated 20 days, facing challenges such as varying weather conditions and dropping temperatures.
