Bahadur Singh Sagoo elected as new president of Athletics Federation of India

Former Asian Games champion shot putter Bahadur Singh Sagoo was elected unopposed as the new president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Chandigarh.

  • The 51-year-old Bahadur Singh will serve a four-year term as AFI president and will be replacing Adille Sumariwalla, who was president of the athletics body for three consecutive terms.
  • Bahadur Singh Sagoo was the sole candidate in contention for the position of AFI president after incumbent senior vice president Anju Bobby George dropped out of the race for the position.
  • A Padma Shri recipient, Bahadur Singh Sagoo represented India at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics.
