IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma was appointed the new Kolkata Police Commissioner after the West Bengal government removed Vineet Kumar Goyal, the former commissioner and transferred him to the role of ADG and IGP of the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police.

Goyal was removed by the Mamata government a day after she met the protesting doctors who sought the top cop's removal.

The state also appointed Dr Kaustav Nayak as the new Director of the Institute of Health and Family Welfare after removing him and DHS Debashis Haldar from their respective posts on the previous day.
