India's Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has embarked on an ambitious project to drill a 6-kilometer deep hole in the Koyna region of Maharashtra. This unprecedented scientific endeavor, known as the "Deep Borehole Investigations in Koyna-Warna Region," aims to unlock valuable insights into the Earth's crust and its processes.

• Main objective of  project is to drill the earth's crust to a depth of 6 km and conduct scientific observations and analysis to help expand the understanding of reservoir-triggered earthquakes in the active fault zone in the Koyna-Warna region of Maharashtra.
• By reaching depths of 6 kilometers, scientists hope to directly observe the active fault zone responsible for seismic activity.
• It can help us better understand the mechanisms behind earthquakes and potentially improve prediction models.
