Hindi Journalism Day celebrated

Hindi Journalism Day, observed annually on May 30, commemorates the rich legacy of journalism in the Hindi language. This day honours the pioneers, those brave voices that resound in the public eye, and what Hindi journalism is doing for society.

This day is significant for all the Hindi newspaper journalists in India. The newspaper played a vital role in creating awareness amongst the people and uniting them during India’s freedom struggle. The communication medium that was most popular at that time was the newspapers.

Hindi Journalism Day celebrated on 30 May to commemorate the day when the first Hindi-language newspaper, Udant Martand, the was published in India on May 30, 1826, from Calcutta (now Kolkata).

Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla published the weekly newspaper on Tuesdays alone and priced at Rs 2 annually. At the time, he had no idea what would emerge of his initiative.
