Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha informed that two items from the state have earned the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

• The two items that received the tag are Matabari Pera – a dairy-based confectionary item traditionally served as prasad at the Tripurasundari temple in Gomati district – and Pachra – a handwoven cloth used by the state’s Indigenous communities.
• The GI tag is expected to boost the waning number of traditional weavers and provide an impetus to the rich art form, observed experts.
• A year earlier, Tripura’s iconic queen pineapple had received a GI tag among 13 other products from the Northeast.
