International Zebra Day is observed every year on January 31. There are currently three different species of zebra living in the wild: Grevy's zebra, plains zebra and mountain zebra.
The Grevy's zebra is critically endangered according to the Red List of Threatened Species.
The African Wildlife Foundation estimates that their numbers have declined by around 54% in the last three decades.
