62nd ITBP Raising Day 2023

ITBP Raising Day is celebrated on October 24 every year to commemorate the founding of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in 1962. The ITBP is a paramilitary force that guards the India-China border in the Himalayas. It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of India.

  • The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was raised on October 24, 1962, in the aftermath of the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
  • The war exposed the weaknesses of India’s border security and the need for a specialized force to guard the India-China border in the Himalayas.
  • The ITBP was initially raised with four battalions. However, its strength has gradually increased over the years, and today it has a strength of over 88,000 personnel. The ITBP is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), along with the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
