United Nations Day, observed every year on 24th October, commemorates the official foundation of the United Nations in 1945.

In 1947, the United Nations General Assembly designated this date—the anniversary of the United Nations Charter—as a day dedicated to informing the global community about the goals and accomplishments of the United Nations and soliciting their support for its mission.

The United Nations General Assembly reinforced the significance of United Nations Day by adopting Resolution 2782 in 1971, proclaiming it as an international observance or holiday and recommending its observance as a public holiday by member states of the United Nations.
