The International Day of Rural Women, celebrated annually on October 15, is a day dedicated to recognizing the vital contributions of rural women worldwide. they play an essential role in agriculture, food production and rural development. However, their contributions are overlooked and undervalued.
- The theme for the International Day of Rural Women (15 October), “Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All”, highlights the essential role that rural women and girls play in the food systems of the world.
- On 18th December 2007, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 62/136, formally acknowledging the crucial role of rural women in agricultural and rural development, enhancing food security and reducing poverty. Subsequently, on 15th October 2008, the first-ever International Day of Rural Women celebrated.
