In Saurashtra, there is a lake called Sudarshan Lake in the middle of a hill called Girnaar. Chandragupta Maurya, the ancestor of the Maurya dynasty, gave the order to build this lake.
It is said that the emperor of that time wanted proper management for irrigation for the people of their city. His Governor Pushyagupta Vaishya, worked on it and built the Sudarshan Lake.
Tusshasp had rebuilt the lake and Canals were taken out of lake at the time of eminent Emperor Ashoka.
This artificial reservoir was repaired in 150 AD by Rudradaman, and the Junagarh inscription gave so many clues about the building of Sudarshan Lake and its repair.
Later it seems that the lake was further repaired by Parnadatta during the times of the Gupta ruler Skandagupta.
