    Story before 1971 war

    Before 1971, India had Pakistan at both of its side—Eastern as well as Western border of the country. The eastern side of Pakistan was apparently weaker than the western Pakistan or (modern Pakistan. In "genocide," as a journalist wrote in his reportage in an International news paper, Pakistani army killed at least 3 lakh locals of East Pakistan. In a special meeting, PM Indira Gandhi asked Army Chief Sam Manekshaw to "do something." However, in that situation, Army Chief told that fighting war in then situation with Pakistan was not possible. He demanded time for planning and preparation in this meeting which was held on April 25 in 1971. It was clear that Indian Army was not prepared for the situation however ready for the war. But Pakistan attacked on India even before the expectations. "I don't know whether I will be reaching Delhi safely or not," Indira Gandhi told Siddharth Shankar while coming back after addressing a rally
