Durand Cup 2023 Final: Mohun Bagan defeated East Bengal in the Durand Cup final

Mohun Bagan side beat East Bengal 1-0 in the Durand Cup final at the Vivekanada Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday (September 3, 2023). Dimitros Petratos scored the only goal in the 71st minute to give MBSG a famous win over their city rivals. Neither team could break the deadlock in an exciting first half, in which EB's Nandhakumar Sekar and MB's Petratos went close to scoring. There were four yellow cards in added time of the first half as the match became ill-tempered. Anirudh Thapa was sent off for a second yellow, but Dimitros Petratos made it 1-0 for 10-man MB in the 71st minute.

  • The Durand Cup holds the distinction of being the oldest existing football club tournament in Asia and the third oldest in the world. As the 132nd edition approaches, football enthusiasts eagerly await the kickoff of the tournament, scheduled to begin on August 3, with the final match set for September 3.
  • This prestigious tournament will feature 24 teams, including three foreign teams, and will take place across the cities of Guwahati, Kokrajhar, and Kolkata.
