India's first cloned Gir calf 'Ganga' produced at NDRI

Scientists of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) here have achieved new milestone by producing country's first indigenous Gir calf clone.

  • The female calf named Ganga was born on March 16, but the achievement was disclosed on Sunday after observing her health for around 10 days.
  • The weight of the calf at the time of birth was 32kg and the newborn is keeping good health.
  • The institute had also produced the world's first cloned buffalo.
