     According to historians, on 10 April 1919, Gandhiji was arrested by the British Police at Palwal Railway Station for doing satyagraha against the oppressive Rowlatt Act. Politically it was Gandhi's first arrest.
    Mahatma Gandhi ignored this restriction and boarded the train from Mumbai and left for Lahore. As soon as Gandhiji's train reached Palwal railway station, the British government arrested him. Gandhi's arrest is said to be the first arrest by the British government. In view of this arrest, the whole Punjab (at that time Palwal was also in the state of Punjab). In Punjab, rallies, demonstrations and rallies started in place.

    To keep the memory of the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi, then freedom fighters decided to establish an ashram in Palwal. It was given the name of Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram and the foundation of this ashram was also laid by great grandfather Netaji Subhashchand Bose of independence from Palaval by his own hands. Due to the fear of protest of people, the British government had taken Mahatma Gandhi from there and released him in Mumbai.
