Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary (RWS)

Context: Recently, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cabinet has approved the notification of the state’s 4th tiger reserve in the Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary (RWS) in Chitrakoot district.

  • Note: This will be the 54th Tiger Reserve in India. Guru Ghasidas National Park of Chhattisgarh is the 53rd Tiger Reserve in India.

About Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary

  • It is located in the Vindhyachal range in the Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

  • It was established in 1977.

  • It is the natural habitat of several animals including leopards, sloth bears, sambars, blackbucks, peafowl, and chinkaras.

  • It does not have tigers of its own, but pug marks of the tigers from Panna are visible.

  • Other Tiger Reserves in UP: Dudhwa National Park; Pilibhit Tiger Reserve; Amangarh Tiger Reserve
