Every year, the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) is observed on May 12th by The United Nations in order to boost global awareness of how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.
- It also highlights the crucial importance of plant health, both in itself and as part of our One Health approach, encompassing human, animal, and ecosystem health.
- The United Nations proclaimed 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH).
Background
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in March 2022 passed a resolution to mark May 12th as International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) to raise awareness regarding the safety of plants and the importance of protecting plant health.
