5 years ago, the age of a man was 3 years more than 4 times his son’s age. After 3 years the man will be 6 years less than thrice the age of his son. After how many years will the sum of their ages be 80 years?
Explanation:
Let the present age of the man and his son be x and y respectively So,
x – 5= 4(y-5) +3 x – 4y= -12 (i)
Again X+3 = 3(y+3) -6 x – 3y= 0 (ii)
By solving, we get X= 36, y=12
Sum of their ages = 48
Hence after 16 years the sum of their ages will be 80 years.
