Every year the National Girl Child Day is celebrated on January 24. The day is celebrated to promote the rights of girl child in the country. Also the day aims to spread the importance of education, health and nutrition of the girl child.

History

The first national girl child day was celebrated in 2008. It is an initiative of Ministry of Women and Child Development.

What is special about 2022 national girl child day?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardees. For the first time the award winners are to be presented with digital certificates using blockchain Technology. This award is presented to girls in the age group of 5 years to 18 years. The awards are presented every year. These awards are presented in the categories of social service, art and culture, sports, scholastic and bravery. These awards are presented by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The award winners are presented with a medal, cash price of one lakh rupees and a certificate.

International girl child day

The International Girl Child Day is celebrated on October 11. It is celebrated by the United Nations and several other international organisations. The United Nations celebrated the first International Day of Girl Child in 2012.

The National Girl Child Day is celebrated to spread about the importance of inequalities faced by the girl children in the country. The day also promotes the educational rights of girl children. It also spreads the importance of health and nutrition of girl children.
