British Diplomat Martin Griffiths appointed new UN Humanitarian Chief
  • Veteran British diplomat Martin Griffiths, has been appointed as the new Chief at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), for a period of five years.
  • The 69-year-old Griffiths will replace Mark Lowcock as the new Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (USG/ERC) of OCHA. 
  • He is currently serving as the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen.
  • The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) aims to strengthen the international response to complex emergencies and natural disasters.
  • The headquarters of OCHA is based in two locations which are New York and Geneva.
