Umesh Sinha appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner

The Union Government has appointed Umesh Sinha as the deputy election commissioner in the Election Commission of India.
Sinha, a 1986-batch IAS officer (retired) of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was the secretary general in the commission prior to this.
He has been appointed on contract basis for a period of six months from January 01, 2021 to June 30, 2021.
With this, the ECI now has 4 deputy election commissioners.
The other three are Sudeep Jain, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Ashish Kundra.
The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering Union and State election processes in India.
The body administers elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies in India, and the offices of the President and Vice President in the country.
