Explanation:

Let the Present ages of Father and Son are ‘F’ and ‘S’ respectively.
Let Son’s age at Present = x
So Father’s age at Present = 30x
(30x + 18)/(x+18) = 3/1
x = 4/3
So 30x = 30 × 4/3 = 40 years.
