The sum of ages of a father and son is 45 years. Five years ago, the product of their ages was four times the father’s age at that time. The present age of the father is ?

Explanation:

Let the present ages of the Father and Son is ‘F’ and ‘S’ respectively.
At present, F + S = 45 ------> (i)
5 years back,
(F - 5)(S - 5) = 4 × (F - 5)
So (S - 5) = 4;
S = 9 years.
Put this in equation (i):-
F = 45 – 9 = 36 years.
