Damanganga-Pinjal project to meet the water needs of Mumbai till 2060
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis announced that Damanganga-Pinjal project will meet the water needs of Mumbai till 2060. It will solve the crisis of drought facing a large section of the state and also enhance water resources for fast-growing urban areas.
Key Points:
i. The Damanganga-Pinjal project will divert excess water from reservoirs in the Damanganga basin to Mumbai Pinjal dam, built on the Pinjal river in Vaitarna basin.
ii. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will provide Rs 403 crore for the Kalu dam. It will fulfill the water needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
