What is CLAT?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam for admissions to candidates in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law courses offered at 22 NLUs and other colleges/ universities accepting exam scores.

Till 2018, the exam was conducted by NLUs on a rotational basis. However, from 2019 onwards it is being conducted by a permanent body formed by the universities, i.e. The Consortium of NLUs. The consortium has its headquarter at NLSIU Bangalore and comprises:

  • An Executive Committee

  • The CLAT Convenor

  • Two co-opted Vice-Chancellors of NLU

What is All India Law Entrance Test  (AILET) ?

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted by National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) to offer admission to eligible candidates in undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) level law courses. This is a university-level entrance exam only for admissions at NLU Delhi as the university does not accept any other law entrance exam for admissions.

 

AILET 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates seeking admissions at NLU Delhi through AILET can check the eligibility criteria as under:

  • Candidates passed in Class 12th or SSC examination or equivalent with minimum 50% marks.
  • Candidates appearing for the qualifying exams are also eligible.

PG Law course

  • Candidates holding LLB or an equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks are eligible.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST categories need to secure at least 50% marks in the final year of the LLB degree.
  • Candidates appearing for their final year LLB examinations are also eligible.

PhD course

  • Candidates holding an LLM degree from any recognised university
  • They should have secured at least 55% marks in the qualifying degree examination. However, if belonging to SC/ ST categories then the qualifying marks are 50% at least. Or
  • If candidates have completed their law degree along with a master’s degree such as MPhil in Social Sciences/ Humanities from any recognised university with minimum 55% marks. Such candidates should ensure that the research work they have conducted is relevant to any discipline of law and with special focus on topics like Public Policy of Law. Or
  • Candidates who have completed a degree in law and a PhD in any discipline. Or
  • Candidates who have worked as a State High Court Judge in India for at least three years or Judge at Supreme Court of India.

AILET Admission Process

The admission process of NLU Delhi through AILET is as under:

Step 1: Online Registration - Candidates need to register online at the official website of NLU Delhi - https://nludelhi.ac.in and fill the application form including candidates' details, uploading documents, fee payment and exam centre selection. The application forms need to be submitted in online mode only.

Step 2: Issue of admit cards - The university will issue admit card to candidates who have successfully registered before the last date of application. Candidates have to carry the admit card on the exam day as it mentions important details regarding the test takers, centre and exam. 

Step 3: Appear for Exam - Candidates have to appear for the examination at the allotted test centres as mentioned on their AILET admit card. They should report to their test centres at least an hour before the examination. 

Step 4: Results declaration - The university will announce AILET results within a month after conducting the examination. The scorecard of candidates qualifying the examination will mention All India Rank, sectional scores, as well as overall scores. 

Step 5: Counselling on basis of the rank-cum-merit list - The university will conduct counselling on the basis of the rank list and also verify the candidates' eligibility for the law course they are seeking admission in. 

 

AILET Exam Analysis 

The analysis is provided by the law experts after the exam has been conducted to give details about the question paper such as difficulty level, type of question asked and weightage of topics from each section.

Last year, the exam was conducted on May 5, 2019, in multiple cities throughout India. As per the experts, AILET 2019 question paper carried no surprises and was quite similar to previous year’s. Q: How many seats are offered through AILET?

A: There are a total of 160 seats available at NLU Delhi, however, only 140 seats (70 seats for each course) for BA LLB and LLM courses are offered through AILET exam.

What is SLAT Exam?

Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) earlier known as SET Law is an entrance exam conducted by the Symbiosis International (Deemed) University to offer admissions into the five-year integrated law courses i.e. BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.). The law courses are offered at four law schools of SIU i.e. Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Pune, SLS Noida, SLS Hyderabad and SLS Nagpur (new campus). 

SLAT 2021 Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates who have cleared class 12th qualifying examination from any national or state board of education

  • The minimum marks required in the qualifying examination are 45%, however, if candidates belong to SC/ ST category then the minimum qualifying marks are 40%.  
  • Moreover, candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply however; they should submit the proof of qualification at the time of final admissions.
  • For BA LLB (Hons.) – Candidates should have studied Arts or Social Science subjects
  • For BBA LLB (Hons.) – Candidates should have studied Commerce/ Mathematics/ Science subjects

SLAT 2021 Process 

The admission process through SLAT exam is as under:

SLAT 2021 Exam Centres and Guidelines

The exam will be conducted at more than 80 test cities in India. Candidates will be able to select their preferred SLAT exam centres 2021 while filling up the online application form. They can select up to three cities as their preferred exam centres for SLAT 2021. The university will give the nearest possible test centres to the candidates from their select cities. The candidates appearing for the SLAT exam should carefully check the instructions below: 

Shift timings of SLAT 2021: SIU conducts its entrance exams i.e. SET/ SLAT/ SEED/ SITEE on the same day but in different shifts. Therefore, the candidates are advised to check the shift timings mentioned on their admit card. 

Exam centre and reporting time: The admit card also mentions allotted test centre details, candidates details as well as exam timings. Therefore, candidates should check the details including reporting time which should be at least two hours before the test timings i.e. by 7:30 am for the morning shift. 

Documents for the test day: Along with the admit card of SLAT 2021, candidates should two passport size colour photograph and any one of the following photo ID proof:

What is DU LLB Entrance Exam?

National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts DU LLB Entrance Exam for admissions to three-year LLB courses offered at Campus Law Centre, Law Centre-I and Law Centre-II of Delhi University. The exam is conducted at the national level at more than 18 test cities (listed below). Through the entrance exam, more than 2900 LLB seats are offered at the law centres of Delhi University.

DU LLB Entrance Exam 2021 Eligibility Criteria

For admissions to Faculty of Law, Delhi University, candidates should meet the academic qualification and minimum marks requirements as per their categories are given below:

  • General Category: Candidates holding a graduation/ post-graduation degree from Delhi University or any other recognized Indian/foreign university with at least 50% aggregate marks.
  • OBC Category: Candidates passing graduation/ post-graduation from a recognised university with at least 45% aggregate marks.
  • SC/ST Category: Candidates passing graduation/post-graduation from a recognised university with at least 40% aggregate marks.
  • CW Category: Candidates who come under widows/ wards of ex-servicemen/serving personnel (CW) category are given a 5% marks relaxation, which means they must have obtained at least 45% aggregate marks in their qualifying degree.
  • PH Category: Candidates holding a graduation/ post-graduation degree from a recognised institute or university and minimum marks secured should be at least 45% marks in aggregate.

The overall paper of the law entrance exam was moderate to difficult level.

  • Candidates who have appeared for the exam shared that there were less General Awareness questions for DU LLB 2019.

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) - India is an entrance exam conducted by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses. What is AIL LET? 

AIL LET is the Law Entrance Test (LET) conducted by Army Institute of Law (AIL) for admissions to BA LLB course. The exam is conducted in online mode for a duration of 2 hours. Through AIL LET, as many as 80 BA LLB seats are offered including a quota for wards of Army Personnel. This is an institute level exam conducted in 32 test cities across India.

 

AIL LET 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to BA LLB course at the law institute should fulfil the eligibility criteria as under: 

  • Candidates passed or appearing in Class 12th or equivalent examination from Punjab School Education Board or any other state or national board of education in India.
  • They must have secured at least 45% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates who have completed their qualifying exam from open university are not eligible for admission to the law course.
  • Candidates who are clearing Class 12th compartment papers are not eligible for admission at AIL.

Candidates appearing for the law entrance test must be careful of a few things as under: 

  • Reach the allotted exam centre at least an hour before the exam timings
  • Carry AIL LET admit card along with a valid photo ID proof - Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, PAN Card, etc.

What is PU UG Law Exam?

The Panjab University conducts PU Under Graduate Law Entrance Exam for admissions to five-years Integrated course offered at its campus and constituent law colleges. The entrance exam is conducted in a pen-paper based test mode and the question paper is based on legal aptitude topics. The test centres for PU UG Law exam will be in Chandigarh only. The final admissions will be based on the PU UG Law merit list, and the candidates meeting the qualifying cut off marks i.e. 15% of the total marks (10% for SC/ ST/ Backward Class/ PwD category candidates) will be shortlisted. 

PU UG Law 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates seeking admissions to five-year integrated law courses offered through the PU UG Law exam should fulfil the eligibility criteria as under:

PU UG Law 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

Candidates taking the exam for BA/Bcom LLB admissions should be careful of few things on the exam day as under: 

  • Candidates should reach the test centre at least an hour before the exam timings i.e. by 9 am so that exam officials can check the admit cards and other documents.
  • Candidates should carry their own pen i.e. black ink gel pen and an HB pencil to mark answers on the OMR sheet. 
  • They should avoid taking any notes, papers or calculators inside the examination hall. The university will provide logarithmic tables for the test takers. 
  • Also, taking mobile phones, Bluetooth device or any other equipment is not allowed in the examination, if candidates will carry such items then he/she will be disqualified from the exam.
  • Candidates should follow the guidelines of the exam centre officials while taking the exam. And no candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall before 11:30 am.
