For 2012-13, the government has brought men and women by raising the income tax threshold for both to Rs 2 lakh. The earlier threshold was Rs 1.8 lakh for men and Rs 1.9 lakh for women. For senior citizens (60 years or above, but below 80 years) as well as very senior citizens (80 years or above), the threshold remains Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.
