Khasis tribes living in Meghalaya are :
Matrilineal
Patrilineal
Bi-lineal
Cognatic
- The Khasi tribes of Meghalaya follow a matrilineal system.
- In a matrilineal society (Option 1 ), lineage and inheritance are traced through the mother's line. Property and family name pass from mother to daughter.
- Patrilineal (Option 2) refers to systems where descent is traced through the father’s line.
- Bi-lineal (Option 3) means both mother’s and father’s lines are considered for inheritance and descent.
- Cognatic (Option 4) allows inheritance and lineage to be traced through either or both parents, but not as structured as matrilineal or patrilineal systems.
- The Khasi, along with the Garos and Jaintias in Meghalaya, are among the rare groups in the world who are traditionally matrilineal.
