Punjab government has decided to increase the monthly pension for Freedom Fighters from Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,400 from April 1 2021.
The government has also issued a notification exempting the Freedom Fighters and their legal heirs from payment of toll tax on state highways.
For this, they will have to show identity cards issued to them at the toll collection points.
Also, Freedom Fighters and their legal heirs have been provided with a free bus travel facility in Punjab government buses ie Roadways and PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) buses.
The term legal heir connotes their sons/ daughters/ grandsons / granddaughters.
Earlier, this facility was available only to Freedom Fighters themselves/ to their widows/ to their unmarried and unemployed daughters.
