1800s Reform: gave workers fair wages, limited child labor & allowed labor unions
Child labor reform laws called "factory acts" were passed in the early 1800s. These laws were passed to reduce a child's workday to twelve hours and also to remove children under the age of eight or nine from the cotton mills.
By the 1800s, working people became more active in politics. To press for reforms, workers joined together in voluntary labor associations called unions.
