How many numbers greater than 1000 but not greater than 4000 can be formed with digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 if repetition of digits is allowed?
375
400
425
72
We need a 4 digit number.
__ __ __ __
The 1st place can be filled by 1,2,3 and 4 only. (In 4 ways)
The remaining places can be filled in 5 ways each.
So total numbers thus form are 4×5×5×5 = 500
But these ways include the number 1000 and the numbers which are greater than 4000.
So Let's check How many numbers starting with digit 4 are formed.
1st place can filled in only 1 way and rest in 5 ways each.
1×5×5×5 = 125 ways
In these 125 numbers, a number 4000 is also there.
Means 124 numbers are there which are >4000 and 1 number is 1000 which we don't require.
500 - 125 = 375
