Rectangular tiles each of size 70 cm 30 cm must be laid horizontally on a rectangular floor of size 110 cm 130 cm, such that the tiles do not overlap. A tile can be placed in any orientation so long as its edges are parallel to the edges of the floor. No tile should overshoot any edge of the floor. What is the maximum number of tiles that can be accommodated on the floor?
4
5
6
7
The answer is given below :
The area of the rectangular floor
= 110 × 130 cm²
= 14300 cm²
and
the area of each rectangular tile
= 70 × 30 cm²
= 2100 cm²
Thus number of tiles needed
= area of the floor ÷ area of each tile
= 14300 ÷ 2100
= 6.8
So, maximum number of tiles needed = 7
