The ages of two persons differ by 14 years. 5 years ago, the elder one was 3 times as old as the younger one. What are their present ages of the elder person?

Present age of the elder person = x
Present age of the younger person = x – 14
(x – 5) = 3 (x-14-5)
x – 5 = 3x – 57
2x = 52
x = 52/2 = 26
