The probability that a candidate passes in SSC is 2/7 and that he passes in UPSC is 3/10. Assuming that passing in SSC and UPSC are independent of each other, what is the probability that he passes in UPSC but fails in SSC?

Probability of passing in SSC=2/7

Probability of passing in UPSC=3/10

Probability of failure in SSC=1 – 2/7

=5/7

Given that both the event  are independent                                               

Required probability=3/10×5/7

=3/14
