What is the greater of the two numbers whose product is 640, if the sum of the two numbers exceeds their difference by 32?

Let the two number be x and y; then
xy = 640 ........(i)
Also, (x + y) - (x - y) = 32
=> 2y = 32
=> y = 16
From eq. (i), x = 640/y = 640/16 = 40
