In 2016 the ratio of salaries of Muskan and Babli was 2 : 3. The ratios of the salary of 2016 to that of the 2017, in the case of Muskan and Babli respectively, are 3 : 4 and 5 : 7. If this year i.e. 2017 the difference in their salaries is 2300, what is Babli’s salary this year?
Rs. 5950
Rs. 6300
Rs. 4300
Rs. 5600
Let a year ago i.e. in 2016 Muskan and Babli’s salaries were x and y and now it is m and n respectively. Given that, x /y = 2 /3 ........(i) x /m = 3 /4 .........(ii) y /n = 5 /7 ............(iii) From (i) and (ii), m /y = (2 x 4) /(3 x 3) = 8 /9 .......(iv) From (iii) and (iv) m /y = (8 x 5) /(9 x 7) = 40 /63 n /m = 63 /40 n /m - 1 = 63 /40 - 1 n - m /m = 63 - 40 /40 n - m /m = 23 /40..........(v) Also, given that (n – m) = 2300 Putting the value In equation (v) 2300 /m = 23 /40 m = 40 x 2300 /23 = 4000 So, n = 4000 + 2300 = 6300
