    Explanation:

    Let the number of boys and girls are 7x and 5x, respectively.
    Given, total number of students = 2400
    ⇒ 7x + 5x = 2400  ⇒  12x = 2400
    ∴   x = 200
    ∴    Required number of girls = 5x  =  5 × 200 = 1000.
