Two friends P and Q started a business investing in the ratio of 5:6. R joined them after six months investing an amount equal to that of Q's. At the end of the year, 20% profit was earned which was equal to 98,000. What was the amount invested by R?
Rs. 210000
Rs. 105000
Rs. 175000
Data inadequate
20% of total investment = 98000
Therefore total investment = 490000
Annual investment of P = 5x * 12 = 60x
That of Q = 6x * 12 = 72x
That of R = 6x * 6 = 36x ( Because R invested for 6 months)
Therefore, 60x + 72x + 36x = 490000 * 12 (We multiplied the total investment- 490000 by 12 to make it annual total investment.)
Or, 168x = 490000 * 12
Or X = 35000
Therefore R's investment is 6x or 6 * 35000= 210000.
Hence, option 1 is the correct answer.
