A motor cyclist goes from Mumbai to Pune, a distance of 192 kms, at an average speed of 32 km p.h. Another man starts from Mumbai by car, 2 1/2 hours after the first and reaches Pune half an hour earlier. What is the ratio of the speed of the motor cycle and the car?
1 : 2
1 : 3
10 : 27
5 : 4
Speed of motor cycle Sm = 32km/h (Sc = d/tc)
distance d = 192km
total time taken for motor cycle tm = d/Sc = 192/32 = 6
total time taken for car tc = 6 - (2.5+.5) = 3
speed of car Sc = d/tc = 192/3
Sm = 32 =192/6
The ratio Sm/Sc = (192/6) / (192/3) = 1/2
Hence, option 1 is the correct answer.
