The Government of India has abruptly terminated the services of Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), ahead of his scheduled term completion.
- The decision, effective immediately from May 10, 2025, was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) without citing any specific reason.
- Following Gupta's dismissal, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has been assigned additional charge as CMD of SECI until a regular appointment is made.
Rameshwar Prasad Gupta
- Rameshwar Prasad Gupta is a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre
- He served as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) starting June 15, 2023
- His tenure was set for two years but was cut short by the government on May 10, 2025
- Prior to joining SECI, he held prominent positions in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Ministry of Coal, and NITI Aayog
- He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
