England batter Joe Root scripted history during Day 2 of the third Test against West Indies on Saturday, July 27 at Edgbaston, Birmingham as he joined an elite list. Root became the seventh batter to complete 12,000 runs in the format as he left behind legendary Brian Lara in the list of all-time run scorers in Test cricket.

• Root surpassed Lara’s tally of 11,953 runs to become the seventh-highest run scorer in Test history.
• He also became the second player from his country to reach the milestone after Sir Alastair Cook who has 12,472 runs to his name.
• Root took 261 innings to complete 12,000 runs becoming the sixth-fastest player to do so.
